Second International Symposium MBT 2007

Mechanical-biological treatment and automatic waste sorting technology

Multilingual conference with simultaneous translation

English – French – Italian – German

Call for Papers

Mechanical-biological waste treatment (MBT) is an efficient and comparatively cheap way to recycle components of the residual waste and to reduce organic input into landfill. In Germany more than 50 MBT plants with an annual treatment capacity of more than 5,600,000 t per year are in operation. In Austria and Italy MBT is also a wide spread technique and it is going to become a very important waste management option in many other countries. In a time of strongly increasing demand for material resources, extraction of recyclable materials from waste is becoming more and more important.

The International Symposium MBT focuses on MBT and additionally on automatic waste sorting technology as the bridge between waste management and recycling industry. Having participants from 31 countries, the bilingual International Symposium MBT 2005 became the internationally most recognised conference on MBT. By extending the conference by two additional languages and by including automatic waste sorting technology the International Symposium MBT 2007 will expand its position. The conference will take place from the 22nd to the 24th of May 2007 in Hanover, Germany. It is accompanied by a commercial exhibition. The conference will include the following topics:

·   Legal aspects, aims and boundary values

·   Current and future relevance of MBT and waste sorting technology

·   MBT and automatic waste sorting: Two technologies with a joint future

·   Competition and material (waste) streams in Europe

·   Functionality, economic efficiency and ecobalance of MBT and material extraction from waste

·   New developments in machine and system engineering

·   Emissions and their treatment

·   Landfilling of MBT-waste

·   Conditioning, use and sale of MBT output fractions (e.g. RDF, metals, minerals) and other recyclable fractions from mixed waste

·   Experiences with new and rebuilt plants

·   Process control and analytics

If you are interested, please submit the following information until December 5, 2006 to

·   Title and qualified abstract (1-2 pages) of the paper

·   Institution, Name, address, Phone, FAX and personal email-address

The selection of the papers and the symposium programme will be finalised in January 2007. The leading authors (presenters) of the accepted papers will get free access to the conference, which also includes lunch, dinner and the conference proceedings. Papers for the conference proceedings have to be in English or German. The Powerpoint presentations on the conference must be in English, but the oral presentation can be held in French, Italian or German as well, but preferably also in English. Transport and accommodation have to be self-organised and paid by the authors. The conference hotel (4 Star category) offers rooms for 65 Euro per night for symposium participants.
